PLAGUE VACATION is a brand-new solo project by musician and filmmaker Derek DeRoche (formerly of Oakland doomgaze band Dustern). His debut EP, EXTENDED PLAY, features one 11-minute original dreamy, pop-metal, sadcore opus and an otherworldly cover of Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years". He achieved his sound through a layering of MIDI drums, soft-synth bass lines, a combination of bedroom practice amp guitar tracks and other guitar tracks re-amped through deafeningly cranked amplifiers, and vocals run through artfully overdone pitch correction and other magical manipulations. The result, coupled with lyrics that dive in and out of personal crisis and pandemic-era isolation, is a heavy but hopeful music for the contradictions of our times.

The band, fronted by Judy Evans, released four further singles plus the album PLEASURE which reached the UK album charts in 1981, before splitting up two years after that first record.

Stone Temple Pilots live at the Centrum, Worcester, MA on August 22nd 1994. Taken aback by the huge success of their 1992 debut album, Core, and drained by the heavy touring that ensued, this San Diego band almost fell apart before recording its follow-up, Purple. Issued in June 1994, it debuted at #1 in America, cementing their star status. This superb concert was broadcast on syndicated radio two months later, and captures the quartet at the height of their powers, before singer Scott Weiland s drug problems derailed them.

Metallica, live at the Reunion Arena, Dallas, Texas on 5th February 1989. Metallica became huge stars following the August 1988 release of …And Justice For All. The following month they embarked on the mammoth Damaged Justice world tour. The remarkable show featured on this double set was broadcast on Z-Rock FM five months in. It captures them on ferocious form, performing many of their best-loved songs, as well as a handful of covers, and is presented here with background notes and images.

Adolescer is a pioneer band in the Argentinian extreme hardcore punk scene, who incorporated rudimentary blast beats in their songs. Formed in 1997, their sound quickly caught the attention of fastcore fans, including Miguel Amezcua of El Grito Records and Esneider Arevalo of Huasipungo, who offered the band to release their songs on vinyl. After recording an eight track LP, the group broke up, leaving all their material unreleased, and their legend only in the memory of those who were able to see them live. After 25 years, Fichines Ruido Zafarla rescues its complete recordings, and for the first time they are officially released as part of the Cassette Week 2023 celebrations.
