On their new Embers EP Strange Pilgrim reimagines five songs from their self-titled debut album, breathing new life into familiar territory. Four of the five tracks, ”Staring at the Sky”, “More Than I Did”, “Salt and Seagulls”, and “Blue Light” are alternate versions which were rebuilt around the vintage pulse of a Korg SR 120 Minipops drum machine and the shimmering tones of an OM84 Omnichord, creating a space where synths, bass, and melody take center stage. Meanwhile, the title track “Embers” is a remix of the original version, chiseling out the core of the song to reveal its intimate essence.

The Fishermen Three is a band led by singer-songwriter Simon Beins alongside his longtime collaborator Raphi Gottesman. Beins, a founding member of the underground NYC band The Wowz, bonded with Gottesman while touring with antifolk heroes Jeffrey and Jack Lewis. They’ve released two previous albums as The Fishermen Three, Rosina on Every Balcony and Time to Think about the Morning, Once Again. Eventually Gottesman moved to Oakland, CA where he’s become a fixture in the Bay Area music scene, playing with Sonny and the Sunsets, Michael James Tapscott, Pacific Walker, and others, while Beins moved to Hawaii to focus on scoring films.

The recordings on this 90 minute cassette were recorded on 4-track portastudio in 1992, initially a day of recording with Shaun & OMC in the same room, and subsequently by sending the master 4-track cassette back and forth by mail.

The original plan was for a release on the Chainsaw Cassettes label. This never came to fruition before the label folded. Thirty three years after the original recordings were made, they have been reworked, one side edited by each artist.

Side A is edited by Shaun, and is titled Bandwidth Epilogue. Side B is edited by Operation Mind Control and is titled Reverse Bandwidth.

The album "Canções de Luta e Subversão!" marks 30 years of uninterrupted activity for the band Pastel de Miolos and a transitional moment highlighted by the return of their original guitarist and vocalist (Alisson Lima) and the arrival of a new bassist (Fábio Sanches). The idea is to return to the band's punk/hardcore roots, leaving aside experimentation and focusing on the style's directness and rawness. A return to basics!

Wixson's latest LP MERICANNIA (self-released 9/9/2025) finds the artist exploring new production approaches and some of his most uncompromising lyrics yet. Firmly rooted in the acoustic singer-songwriter tradition, the album blends Eastern European, Caribbean, Andean, and top 40 pop influences into Wixson's standard punky folk fare. Guest appearances abound, including Dicky Barrett of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones on "We're All In This Alone," a song which interpolates lyrics and melodies from the Bosstones' 1997 hit "The Impression That I Get." Across twelve tracks Wixson reacts to a lot of the ugliness of modern America with satire, wit, and fearless compassion.

Fichines Ruido Zafarla [60 made]

"Sound of the Bay" is the new EP by Sandy’s, the San Francisco band led by songwriter Alexi Glickman. Known for pairing harmonically expressive compositions with colorful arrangements that conjure the spirit of epic waves, the group took a laid-back approach to this new set of songs—adding shades of 60’s jazz and exotica to their “Beach Boys meets Polyvinyl” inspired surf-rock.

Inspired by Elgar’s “Cello Concerto in E Minor”, Chopin’s “Mazurka #13”, and David Lynch’s lounge universe, the sandband gathered in a house in Truckee alongside engineer David Glasebrook to record their latest EP. The result is a collection of mysterious tunes that serve as a love letter to the Autumn Bay Area surf season in all its glory. Mostly recorded live, the new EP pairs adventurous arrangements with the organic chemistry of a group that’s been making music together for years. Just like the 60’s Blue Note jazz records that inspired the EP, it was recorded live in a living room and mixed down to analog tape.

While Sandy’s doesn’t claim to own the recipe for the sound of the bay, they’ve been an integral part of the scene long enough to know when they’re tapping the source. Royal Oakie Records and Glickman’s Sandyams imprint are excited to co-release the EP on cassette this October 17th, just in time for Cassette Week 2025.

East LA duo exhibits rare, raw energy on self-titled EP

On their long-awaited first official offering, East Los Angeles-based PLEZZURE – consisting of Andres "Dres" Huerta and Juan "Bunchie" Vera – fuse electropunk and breaks like it's second nature. Their self-titled EP boils over with grimy, raw, and scene-stealing energy.

Throughout the brisk fifteen-minute runtime, filthy strings and blistering synths crash into frenzied beats, creating a white-hot explosion of angst, rage, and discontent. With proclamations like "Fuck The System," "Death 2 La Migra" and "$nake," it's not hard to decipher PLEZZURE's worldview. EP closer "Vampire" delivers a surprisingly apt dip into darkwave and deathpop.

MMOUTH 01 is the haunting debut from mmouth, an ambient project conceived by XTina Marie that centers around the human voice. Composed using polyphonic vocal arrangements and sparse, droning synth beds, the work draws inspiration from Medieval and Renaissance choral traditions, as well as contemporary ambient music. Société oblique is the new album by French sound artist yyate. Unbound by convention or genre, the record blends computer music, years of accumulated field recordings and delayed attempts at rhythm, blurring the line between the natural and the synthetic.

Seaside waves morph into digital noise, unidentified electronics bubble, crinkle and hiss, and bursts of sub-bass punctuate the soundscapes. The result is a collection of immersive sonic environments that shift between shimmering textures and fractured spaces.

According to the artist: ‘Yyate is a vacant lot. Lost between mediterranean shores, volcanoes, huge pine forests. A big pile of metal objects looking to meet each other. The light is never far away.’

On the Grounds of Indecency is the new album by Copenhagen-based Portuguese artist Swoop and Cross (Ruben do Vale). Merging neoclassical, ambient and drone textures, Ruben crafts intimate and emotional soundscapes blending piano, field recordings, virtual instruments, electronics and effects.

The album is inspired by Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go – a book that unsettled Ruben to his core and led him to revisit, reframe, and reimagine his own past. The record unfolds as a deeply personal meditation on memory and fragility, moving from delicate piano performances to dense, layered soundscapes, soaked in reverb and dirtied by tape grit and warble.

The pieces evolve patiently, exploring the fragile lines between beauty and unease, consonance and dissonance, inviting the listener to reflect and linger.
